Masha loves calling barn dances -- Everyone welcome, no experience needed, it's a dance party!
Traditional square dances, big circles, contra dances - and there's always live music. Masha has been teaching and calling dances since 1978, for private parties, music festivals, craft fairs, fundraisers, school groups, weddings, and just for fun. She's great at taking total beginners and getting them up and dancing and having fun, no lessons needed. She has a unique, energetic, musical calling style and a sense of humor that keeps everyone laughing and dancing and having a great time.

"What do we need to hold a barn dance?"
People (any ages, everyone welcome, 20 or 200 or 2000), a fairly level space (approx. 10ft x 10ft per 10 people), and Masha!
She'll show you everything you need to know. She can bring her own band or work with yours, bring her own sound system if it's needed, and can tailor a program to suit a historic reenactment or costumed theme. With over 30 years' experience she can help you with tips on organizing a barn dance for your event, large or small. (Masha carries Caller Liability insurance through CallerLab and the CDSS.)

Flatfoot Clogging
Masha is an award-winning flatfoot clog dancer. Her feet are percussion instruments, with all rhythms improvised on the spot. She has taught traditional clogging for over 30 years, at festivals and music camps from coast to coast.

Fancy flatfooting & clogging steps aren't needed for the barndances that Masha calls. For traditional squares & contra dances, you're really just walking in time to the music. If, however, you want to get fancier... Here's some fancy footwork from the Stringband Festival at Clifftop.
